Mom and Dad

Taking care of me
Each time I get sick.
How could I know
How deeply my Mom loves me?

Working hard
Day by day with sweat.
How could I feel
How hard my Dad has endured?

Raising me and
Loving me unconditionally.
How blessed I am
To have my Parents in my life.

A letter

Dear my friend,

How are you doing? How has your week been so far? I hope you’re still doing well.

I just found that you didn’t pass the exams this year. I’m sorry about this. Perhaps you might be sad and disappointed about yourself. It’s not a big deal, though, if you failed the exams. You tried your best and to me, you have still succeeded.

When one door closes, another door opens. There are still a lot of opportunities out there that are waiting for you. Now, it’s time to wipe your tears, take deep breaths, and be ready for new things.

Please remember that who fail the most, succeed the most. You’re bolder than you thought. And no matter who you are and how many mistakes you have made, I’m still here for you and support you.

May you be happy always.

With love, ❤

An An

P.S. You rock, my Dear

Describe your favorite place on Earth.

What is your favorite place that you have been to and will never forget? For me, Hue is my favorite place of all time. It’s a beautiful and poetic city in Central Vietnam with a lot of cultural interests and hidden secrets.

Referring to Hue, I can say that Hue is like a muse. Why can I say that? As in my eyes, the beauty in Hue makes this city beautiful by itself. From the landscape and the historical places, to the cuisine and the most special thing of all, the Hue people.

I remember, the first time I came to Hue. I fell in love with the sweet voice of the people here. They spoke Vietnamese with a unique voice. The voice was soft, warm, and as sweet as honey. At that time, to be honest, I even tried to ask them more questions, just to hear their voices. And then, Hue continued conquering me by the landscape, where green trees were adorned by red flowers, and a curved steam looked like the lissome hair of a beautiful woman. In addition, I also had a chance to visit some king’s tombs there with thrilling stories behind. Just because, many years ago, Hue was the capital of Vietnam for a long time. The stories about the kings and queens surprised me, because of their luxurious and wealthy life. Honestly, I wanted to know more about this place. However, I spent only two days in Hue and left her on a rainy day.

King Tu Duc’s Tomb

Overall, Hue will always be my favorite place on Earth. Since leaving that place, I haven’t returned. But I still remember Hue and I will definitely come back there one day to understand more about the beautiful and mysterious place.

What are the simplest things that bring you joy?

Sometimes, we might think that it’s hard to feel truly joyful and fulfilled without having certain things, such as lots of money, a luxurious car or a grand house.

Happy 2021!

For me, it might be a bit different. A moss rose blooming in front of my house, seeing my grandma’s smile, having dinner with my parents, or enjoying wandering around the town. All of these simple things bring me joy and happiness. I’m so thankful for them.

Do you use homemade medicine?

I am a big fan of homemade medicine. But it doesn’t mean I don’t use Western medicine. In the past, I used to use Western medicine each time I got cold and flu, stomach ache or headache. I also used antibiotics when I had a sore throat. The medicine was so effective and helped me get well very soon. I was dependent on antibiotics and Western medicine for a long time. I felt that they reduced my body resistance as I could become sick very easy.

Since then, I have tried to use and make homemade medicine. I make a cup of honey and lemon tea for me every morning. I eat food which is made from pumpkins to avoid headaches. I wash my hair with boiled water from pomelo peels, lemongrass and green tea leaves to reduce hair loss. I love homemade medicine because it is natural and doesn’t have too much side effects. Anyway, I choose both of Western medicine and homemade medicine to protect my health.

What are you greatful for during this pandemic?

I work in the hospitality industry. Because of COVID-19, no foreign guests are able to enter Vietnam. Which means Vietnam tourism has been going down. I have had troubles at work, as no guests are staying in our hotel.

However, during this pandemic, I’ve witnessed such beautiful things in my town that I haven’t seen them for a long time. For example, I’ve heard the sound of birds in the mountain. There are a lot of birds flying in the sky and no one catches them. I’ve seen pretty butterflies; and I could capture some photos of the butterflies in the town center, it’s really rare to run into insects since tourism has developed where I live.

Even though I might have some difficulties at work, it’s not a big deal, as I feel that the environment in my town has improved so much. It also means the Earth has been healing and I’m grateful for that.

A whisper

Dear Phat,

I know that you’re still here for me.

You know, sometimes I worry about the future. I wonder what will happen with me in the future. Will I have enough money to do what I want? Will I be happy? Will I achieve my goals?

Worrying about the future makes me stressed and I forget about what is going on in the present moment. However, each time I think of you, I realise that the present moment is a miracle. Everything I am looking for is right here and now,in each breath.

Thanks for reminding me and being with me always.

Love you too much,

Con An

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?

Have you ever asked yourself if you could be an animal, what you would be? In my case, I would be an ant for some reasons.

My first reason is, when looking at an ant from the outside, it looks so small. Sometimes, I even can’t recognize it.  However, no matter how small an ant is, it’s still pretty in my eyes as it reminds me that I need to be humble with everyone.

An ant never goes alone for the following reason. They always work and support one another. If I stop an ant with my hand, somehow the ant will use its antenna to find its friends. It’s really nice to learn from ants about their attitude towards teamwork.

And the persistent character of ants is my last reason. Day by day, ants always work hard to look for food and bring it back to their nest. They work bit by bit in no rush.

All the reasons above persuaded me to be an ant if I had a chance, as ants have many good characters for me to learn from, and I can apply them in life.
